My artwork is a search in the material.
Since my youth I am fascinated by stones in every colour and shape and I collect them. During a holiday in Carrara in Italy I was by the white marble mountains and took some interesting pieces back home with me.
After years making of ceramic sculptures from soft clay my fascination towards stone inspired me to start working in solid stone. Instead of building up with my hands now I have to work in a totally different way. A reduction process rather than a buiding up one.
And the Carrara stones waiting in the garden developed into a sculpture.
With an idea in my mind I look for a stone that connects with this idea and the shape of the stone guides me towards the end result.
Often the shape of the stone touches my feelings and inspires me to unexpected interesting sculpures.
I get inspired by the female figure and the relationship between people. Events in my own surroundings such as the pregnancy of my daughter guided my hands to make a sculpture.
With my art I try to open up a mental process towards the spectator in which I hope to touch his feelings.
